A guided walking tour in Athens that starts from the ancient Panathenaic Stadium and ends at the highest point of central Athens, Lycabettus Hill.  On this tour you will walk through the National Garden and the tony Kolonaki neighborhood before reaching Lycabettus Hill.  On the walk, your guide will recount plenty of history, both ancient and modern, show you some of the most cosmopolitan areas of central Athens and take you, via cable car, to Lycabettus Hill for a spectacular view of Athens and the surrounding area.

Activity highlights

You will have the opportunity to take some of the most amazing and memorable photographs from the top of the hill, at the stadium and in the garden.  This tour is ideal for you If you like to walk and you love to explore the hidden gems of the city!

1) Panathenaic Stadium

The ancient Panathenaic Stadium, also known as Kallimarmaro, has a rich history.  It’s the ancient stadium of Athens, first built in 330 BC (rebuilt in 144 AD), and was the main venue of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.  It is the only stadium built entirely of white marble.

2) National Garden

The National Garden, once called the Royal Garden, covers a vast area of about 38 acres and is the perfect place for a peaceful walk.  Although it’s located in the most central spot of the city, it remains quiet and relaxing.  The Garden boasts hundreds of different species of plants, many ancient ruins and the Zappeion Hall, a large palatial building of the 19th century.  Beautiful walk with plenty to see!

3) Kolonaki Neighborhood

Kolonaki, at the foot of Lycabettus Hill, is the most elegant and trendy neighborhood of central Athens.  A modern and vivid neighborhood, with plenty of twentieth century history, is the area to see the rich and famous with its fine restaurants, bars, cafes and luxury shops.

4) Cable Car

We board the cable car, also known as the funicular, at the bottom of Lycabettus Hill.  The three-minute ride to the top of the hill is quite interesting and enjoyable.

5) Lycabettus Hill

The views at the top of the hill, the highest point in Athens, are breathtaking; Athens, the surrounding areas, the sea. It’s hard to describe. You have to see it.  We will visit the Chapel of St. George, a beautiful whitewashed church.

End of our walking tour:

Once the tour is over, there are several cafes and restaurants if you wish to have a drink or dinner with a panoramic view of Athens.

*The ticket of the cable car is included.
